Last July a friend in Belfast, Northern Ireland told me that one of the Belfast Giants was packing his skates and preparing for the
Chicago Blackhawks prospect camp. Yes, Davy Phillips star blueliner of the Belfast Giants was coming our way to show Chicago how a British born and trained
player could put his mark on the North American game.
David did more than impress he earned an American Hockey League contract at the July camp and has his eye on the National Hockey league. First he has to survive his rookie season in the rough and tumble the AHL. Something he seems well on his way to accomplishing.
Here is a first look at our import on the Icehogs. My first impression of him has lasted. Phillips is a stay at home defenseman who keeps his head up and knows to keep between the opposition and his goalie. Two basic things that are lovely to see in a blueliner, rookie or vet.
