Phoenix is no slouch this year; they have absolutely 0 expectations. Everyone seems to have forgotten what a great goalie Bryzgalov is. Etc. Etc., but it looks like the Hawks deserved to lose that game.

The Yotes shut down Kaner and it worked. Both Sharpie and Steeger missed on clear cut breakaways, combine that with the resident cream puff goalie letting in his usual softie on the first goal and it's a recipe for defeat. This game could have been won, despite the Hawks showing some rust after a whole week off but that's the way the puck bounces. I'm looking for a much better result against the Avs tonight.

I was thinking the exact same thing last night...

Only thing I'd like to add, is didn't they have this same kind of flat game last time they had more than 3 days off?
3 or more days off seem to be the kiss of death for the Hawks this year. Can't Q work them hard enough in that off time? Guess playing golf with dad was more important than focusing on the game.

This team got real un-hungry real fast. Combine lack of effort with a lack of another top guy to spread attention away from Kane and the Hawks look about average. This team, as it currently stands, is in no postition to repeat their playoff run of last year. I know Huet isn't responsible for the flatness - but his 1 crap-goal a game act is making me get a lot done during the games - I'll be happy when he's gone. I think it's time to just listen to the radio feeds for a while and get some projects done instead of giving them my full attention.

Hmm. While last night was bad, I disagree that this team is not in a position to repeat a deep playoff run. Remember, they are still without two of their best forwards (Toews and Hossa) and missing two of their more physical players in Burish and Eager.

That said, I am not a big believer in Huet and I would like to see them get one more steady defenseman, even if they traded Barker to get one.

They better shape up or we will be in 3rd place real soon. The delay in Hossa being ready to play is really going to start to hurt us. We will be a .500 team by the end of the month and scratching and clawing to make the playoffs.

Happy, the ball itself has it's own energy or life force if you will, it's natural environment is in the hole. So why don't you send him home. His bags are packed, he's got his airplane ticket. Bring him to the airport. Send him home!

Yeah I have to agree with most assessments of the team's play last night, it was just flat out bad. Only 2-3 players actually looked decent. You could tell the Hawks were lazy when they were almost getting beat on icing calls or did get beat, they were not winning board battles or races to pucks, and to me that is unacceptable. This team clearly needs Toews back to lead by example, and I'm very eager to see what Hossa is going to look like and who he is going to play with. I also think the Hawks do need Eager back soon because Ebbett and Hendry are not cutting it up front.

I have nobody to complain about now! Quick somebody join and be a douchebag so I can make fun of you.

Hawks have played 2-4 less games less than the teams above them and could easily be anywhere from 4-8 if they were level.

But continue to see the glass half empty if that is your want.

When have you known him to be any sort of optimist when it comes to his rooting interest?

Sloppy and flat... that's what happens when the schedule has you playing 3 games in 4 nights then puts you off for 4 days. Not going to have it every night if there's no rhythm to the schedule.

Does Jonathan Toews mean this much to the team's effort level and consistency? This is the 2nd prolonged absence he's had in just over 3 years, and both times the team suffered mightily. They're not rock solid steady with him, but you sure can count on a better nightly effort when he is in there. It helps me appreciate the things he does from the bench as well as on the ice that much more.

It's the schedule's fault?

come on...that's weak. Hawks were waiting for 2 days in the Phx sun for the Yotes to come home. Phx played a tough road game the night before in Col, and dominated the Hawks.

That's 100% lack of preparation and desire on behalf of the Chi players.

The Hawks have played 14 games...most teams have played 15, and a couple are at 16-17.

What should fans should really find concerning is that the Hawks have played double the amount of home games as roadies so far, and have had an absolutely cream puff schedule to this point. After next week's homestand, it gets MUCH more difficult.

It's 14 games and we've yet to even have a full squad. I'll save judgement till Christmas whether I'm gonna be worried or not. They're very good at home and almost .500 on the road which is what you kind of expect. So I don't know what exactly this "worry" that you love to speak about really is...
